Description:
January 17, 2012
This winter, Snowy Owls (Bubo scandiacus) have been making the news around the nation and especially here in Chicago. They breed in the tundra of the high arctic and normally only small numbers of individuals make their way as far south as the Great Lakes Region. This winter has been a banner Snowy Owl invasion with many individuals wintering across the northern United States and southern Canada. This photo was taken within walking distance of the Field Museum.
