The Field Museum Library's collection of natural history artworks are held in the Mary W. Runnels Rare Book Room. The Rare Book Room was the gift of Museum Trustee John S. Runnels in 1981 in dedication to his mother who donated a set of Audubon's Birds of America double elephant folio to the Field. The Rare Book Room also houses other notable works by artists and illustrators whose representations of birds stir our imagination and curiosity.
